New Postal Rates Make Postcards Even Better

It is May 14, 2007 and postal rates have increased again. Unlike postal rate increases that we have been exposed to in the past, this one is entirely different.

Post postal rates have been straight across the board increases for standard, well known services. This new one however… it is an across the board increase AND a major change in the classification of traditional first class mailing into four classes. It was postcards and everything else. It is now postcards, letters, large envelopes and parcels. So if you are traditionally mailing a large envelope or a parcel (which can be an envelope more than 1/4 inch thick), rates have gone up astronomically.

In our office, our traditional package has been a four ounce package that was shipped first class mail with delivery confirmation. As we metered everything, we received delivery confirmation at a reduced rate making the cost of mailing a package $1.25. Under the new rates, that same package costs $1.82 to mail - a whopping 46% increase to mail out our standard package.

But postcards have only risen to 26 cents (or 41 cents if you use a large size postcard.)

So as lead generators or to keep in touch with people on your mailing list, postcards are definitely the way to go. Tie a good postcard message with a longer web based message and it is a bargain method of keeping in touch with the important people in your real estate empire.
